I recall an episode of The New Avengers where a frozen Adolf Hitler was thawed by neo-Nazis as a prelude to launching a Fourth Reich. Well, check out Thilo Sarrazin, a German banker and author, who has rewritten ‘Mein Kampf’ under the title ‘Germany Abolishes Itself’. Forget the thawing. After faking suicide, escaping the bunker and lying low for several decades, all the Fuhrer has done is go a bit grey, grow his moustache and start wearing glasses.
Sarrazin has joined the ranks of contemporary ultra-nationalists, such as Bruce Bawer (‘While Europe Slept’) and Mark Steyn (‘America Alone’) in offering a pea-brained vision of Christian values being swamped by genetically inferior Muslims. And not just Muslims.
“All Jews share a certain gene. Basques have particular genes, that distinguishes them from others”. That wasn’t Himmler during a visit to one of his extermination camps. That was Sarrazin.
Sadly, such vile opinions didn’t become extinct in 1945. Like the bacteria capable of outliving ice ages racism kept festered away. Sixty-odd years later neo fascists still appear on polling cards throughout Europe. And ‘intelligent’ financiers, who you might expect to have a modicum of sense, persist in peddling the bile of racial superiority.
